Marriage is a beautiful Sunnah that beautifies and gives meaning to a relationship. It’s a relationship that is always in need of the blessings of Allah SWT. Our beautiful religion also guides on how to mold our character in order to sow the seeds of love and blessings in the beautiful journey of MARRIAGE.
Allah SWT says in the Glorious Quran :
“And among His Signs is this, that He created for you mates from among yourselves, that you may dwell in tranquillity with them, and He has put love and mercy between your (hearts)…” (30:21)
Subhaan Allah. What a beautiful verse!
A healthy marriage comprises of FAITH and PIETY. Because the couple unites for the sake and love of Allah, they are able to make decisions and resolve problems based on this wonderful commitment.
There are roles to be played diligently and patiently by the husband and wife both in order to achieve tranquility and mercy of Allah SWT. The relationship between a husband and wife is a spiritual relationship and sustains and generates love, gentleness, loyalty, kindness, mercy, compassion, mutual confidence, self-sacrifice, solace, tranquility, and succor. They practice good communication skills, engage in mutual consultation, and are calm. Honesty, trustworthiness, humility and a willingness to cooperate and compromise helps to build a strong relationship.
But, how are these elements achieved?
In this article, we shall be focusing on the qualities of a righteous wife. A righteous wife is the best of women from the people of paradise.
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) said,
“A woman is married for four things: for her wealth, for her lineage, for her beauty or for her piety. Select the pious, may you be blessed!”.
– Al-Bukhari and Muslim
TAQWA. That’s what Prophet Muhamamd ﷺ advised. Not wealth. Not rank. Not status. Not lineage. Not beauty. But, Taqwa. That is Piety, Righteousness, and God-Fearing.Piety plays a major role. A pious wife is well aware of her duties and responsibilities. She knows the great position that she holds as a Wife. A pious wife is a true home maker, peace giver, and a wonderful companion.
A Righteous wife is the best provision on earth.It was narrated that from Abdullah bin Amr that Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:
“This world is but provisions, and there is no provision in this world better than a righteous wife.”

❖ BE GRATEFUL!! Do not forget his favors. Possess a Thankful Heart.
Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: I was shown the Hell-fire and that the majority of its dwellers were women who were ungrateful. It was asked, Do they disbelieve in Allah? (or are they ungrateful to Allah?) He replied, They are ungrateful to their husbands and are ungrateful for the favors and the good (charitable deeds) done to them. If you have always been good (benevolent) to one of them and then she sees something in you (not of her liking), she will say, ‘I have never received any good from you.
– Sahih Bukhari
❖ BE LOYAL!! Being obedient, pleasing, trustworthy, and sincere.
Narrated by Abu Umamah:
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ used to say: “Nothing is of more benefit to the believer after Taqwa of Allah than a righteous wife whom, if he commands her she obeys him, if he looks at her he is pleased, if he swears an oath concerning her she fulfills it, and when he is away from her she is sincere towards him with regard to herself and his wealth.”– Sunnan e Ibn e Maja
❖ BE SUPPORTIVE!! Strive together to achieve the final abode, Jannah!
Narrated that Thawban said:
“When the Verse concerning silver and gold was revealed, they said: ‘What kind of wealth should we acquire?’ Umar said: ‘I will tell you about that.’ So he rode on his camel and caught up with the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and I followed him. He said: ‘O Messenger of Allah what kind of wealth should we acquire?’ He said: ‘Let one of you acquire a thankful heart, a tongue that remembers Allah and a believing wife who will help him with regard to the Hereafter.’ ”
– Sunnan e Ibn e Maja
Narrated that Abu Hurairah said:
“The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said: ‘May Allah have mercy on a man who gets up at night and prays and wakes his wife, and she prays; and if she refuses he sprinkles water in her face. And May Allah have mercy on a woman who gets up at night and prays and wakes her husband and he prays; and if he refuses, she sprinkles water in his face.’”
– Sunnan e Ibn e Maja
❖ BE THE ESSENCE OF HAPPINESS!! Fill his heart with Joy.
Sa’d ibn Abi Waqqas reported: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Four things are part of happiness: a righteous wife, a spacious dwelling, a righteous neighbor, and a comfortable amount. Four things are part of misery: a bad neighbor, a bad spouse, a restrictive dwelling, and a bad mount.”
❖ BE GENTLE AND HUMBLE!! Do not sleep until he is pleased.
Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said: “Shall I not inform you regarding best of your women (who will be) from the people of paradise?They are loving, child-bearing, those returning to their husbands, those whom if they cause harm (to their husbands) or are harmed (by their husbands) and in another narration: … if her husband becomes angry she comes (to him) until she holds the hand of her husband then says: ‘by Allāh, I will not sleep until you are pleased’.”
– Sunan An Nisai

Abdur Rahman ibn Awf reported: Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, said, “When a woman prays her five prayers, fasts her month, guards her chastity, and obeys her husband, then it will be said to her: Enter Paradise from whichever gate you wish.”

These were some of the wonderful attributes in order to be given the golden opportunity of entering the Jannah…… from whichever gate we desire!
