The word darkness is mostly taken as a negative word and is attributed to the state of sadness, depression, etc. Well, it is true that sometimes we go through the phase of loneliness but it does not actually mean that we are alone or something, in fact, we have caring and loving people around but still we feel lonely and nothing makes sense to us and this is what we call as the phase of darkness.

But there is another aspect to it too!!! Sometimes we are so involved in our lives and also in helping others but yet we don’t have time to think about ourselves. Relax, like night time is the most peaceful time, it’s a time when one is alone and also the best time to meditate and feel spirituality unlike daytime when one is busy earning livelihood; Darkness is also a time of blessing when one loves solitude more than anything though we feel restless, depressed and irritated. In reality, it’s the time where we can actually think about our potential and feel closer to Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى as we know that no one can actually understand us except Him.

SubhanAllah , we see that Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى has revealed the parables of day and night various times in the Quran though sometimes it is used in its actual sense and sometimes as a parable.

If we actually look into the time period when Surah Duha, chapter 93 of Holy Quran was revealed, it will amaze us. This was revealed at the time when Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was really depressed because the revelation hadn’t arrived for a long time. Moreover, the Mushrikoon told really depressing things to him that Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى has forsaken him and stuff like that. As a human being, Prophet Muhammad ﷺ started to feel that Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى too might have abandoned him and therefore, this Surah was revealed in order to console Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

“By the glorious morning light, And by the night when it is still, Thy Guardian-Lord has not forsaken you, nor is He displeased. And verily the hereafter will be better for thee than the present. And soon will thy Lord give thee (that wherewith) thou shalt be well- pleased.” (95:1-5)

SubhanAllah, this is great and this Surah acts like an antidepressant. It pushes away our depression and sorrows. If we closely analyze it, we will see that Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى is swearing by Dawn which is the glorious light that comes after the night is darkest. SubhanAllah, it means that we will get out this phase as there is never always darkness and time will always change. Furthermore, Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى is assuring Prophet Muhammad ﷺ that He has not left him rather He is just being silent during the tests as these tests polish the personality and such breaks are often needed. Furthermore, Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى is also telling Prophet Muhammad ﷺ that the later period is better so he shouldn’t lose hope. This lesson is for all of us. We must trust Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى and look at the brighter side and remind ourselves of His blessings and favours that He has bestowed upon us.

Have faith and know that Allah سُبْحَانَهُ وَ تَعَالَى loves us and He knows what is better for us. Have sabr and Tawakkul (trust in Allah) and In sha’a Allah He will surely take us out from the state of depression.
